Bitcraft

A crafting game built on Digital Objects

Gather, craft, and scale your way to Bits.

Every item in Bitcraft is a cryptographically certified file on your computer. Download the desktop app and start chopping wood.

macOS

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg.
  2. Drag Bitcraft into your Applications folder.
  3. Launch Bitcraft from Applications or Spotlight.

Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu → About This Mac. “Chip: Apple M…” means Apple silicon.

Windows

  1. Run the downloaded installer. It installs for your user only, so no administrator rights are needed.
  2. If SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info → Run anyway.
  3. Launch Bitcraft from the Start menu.

Linux

  1. Make the AppImage executable and run it:
    chmod +x bitcraft-*.AppImage
    ./bitcraft-*.AppImage
  2. Or right-click the file → Properties → Permissions, allow executing it, then double-click.

The first launch builds Bitcraft’s proving cache and can take several minutes. Later launches are quick.

Installers are not published yet. They will appear on the GitHub releases page soon.

What is Bitcraft?

Bitcraft is a crafting game. You build a factory that turns wood, stone, and iron into Bits, and try to accumulate as many as you can.

Every item is a Digital Object: a .dobj file on your computer, backed by a zero-knowledge proof that it was legitimately produced. Making things means doing real computational work (hashing, proving, running programs) and certifying that you did it.

Because items are files, you trade them by sending the file. Once the recipient uses an object, every older copy is invalidated, so the object is fully theirs.

  • Everything is localYour inventory lives on your disk. No account, no server-side save.
  • Items are filesSend an object by sending its file. Ownership is enforced cryptographically.
  • Nothing is cheatingScripts, AI agents, extra machines: all fair game. Bitcraft ships with an MCP server and an SDK.

How to play

1

Gather

Start with your Pocketknife. Right-click it to gather wood. Right-click any object to see what you can do with it.

Pocketknife → Wood
2

Craft

Select several objects with Ctrl, Cmd, or Shift-click to combine them. One wood and two sticks make a wooden axe.

Wood Stick Stick → Wooden axe
3

Scale

Build better tools, quarries, and drills, and level them up to produce faster. The Recipebook tab lists every recipe.

The game shows your inventory’s Total Bit Value at all times.

Under the hood

Bitcraft runs on the Digital Objects Network: programmable state machines, stored as files, that can pass between people who don’t trust each other without losing integrity. It relies on recursive zero-knowledge proofs (POD2) and Ethereum as a public bulletin board.

The desktop app bundles everything it needs: the game, the Digital Objects daemon, and the Bitcraft plugin. You don’t need to install anything else.

Requirements

  • OSmacOS (Apple silicon or Intel), Windows 10/11 x64, or Linux x86_64
  • CPU4 cores recommended
  • RAM8 GB recommended
  • DiskAbout 2 GB free

Proofs are generated on your machine, so more cores means faster crafting.
